American Veterans Post #35 held it’s Third Annual Veteran’s Picnic at Texoma State Park in Kingston.

Durant veterans treated 156 veterans, their counselors and staff from three veteran nursing homes. Veterans came from the Bonham, Sulfur, and Ardmore veteran centers.

They were treated to hamburgers, hotdogs and soft drinks. They were entertained by the Shadow Mountain Band and singers Dale Lay and Carl Thurlo.

After lunch they took a 90-minute paddle boat ride on the Durant Belle Riverboat.

American Veterans Post #35 would like to thank all those who helped contribute to this Veteran’s Picnic:

• Landmark Bank provided the cooker and Hank Hampton did the cooking.
• First National Bank furnished soft drinks and the self-contained
  trailer.
• Shadow Mountain Band and Dale Lay donated their talent and time.

American Veterans meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Golden Corral Family Steakhouse in Durant and would like to invite all veterans to attend the next meeting.

We’re proud to show our support for these American heroes who have displayed their courage serving their country. They are to be saluted and appreciated.
