Chamber members win awards at annual banquet

 

Durant Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Chamber Banquet on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant. The event, “Mardi Gras Masquerade” had approximately 400 people in attendance.

2016 Outgoing Chamber President Bert Davison of First United Bank, 2017 Incoming Chamber President James Dry of Choctaw Casinos and Chamber Executive Director Janet Reed honored local businesses and individual chamber members for the 2016 year.

Eight awards were presented in five categories. Recipients are as follows:

2016 Large Business of the Year – Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma
2016 Small Business of the Year – People First Industries
2016 Dean Samuel Spirit Award – Alvina Ralls
2016 Dean Samuel Spirit Award – Jeremiah Lynch
2016 Volunteer of the Year – Jake Nichols
2016 Hall of Fame Inductee – Billy Marr
2016 Hall of Fame Inductee – Sharon Robinson
2016 Hall of Fame Inductee – John Massey

Special recognition was given to 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, Jon Hazell with a plaque from the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Cassie Hallmark Memorial Scholarship Fund silent auction was held in conjunction with the banquet as well with proceeds benefiting Durant High School band students.
